Wonderful show from Korean pop group By SETO KIT YAN (skyseto@thestar.com.my)via

South Korean pop group Wonder Girls set temperatures soaring at the Malaysian leg of its concert tour.
GENTING Highlands was so chilly last Saturday night it gave me 2 Different Tears but Wonderfuls Tell Me that Nobody felt cold because Wonder Girls were just So Hot. (Wonder Girls’ fans are called Wonderfuls.)

Vibrant: The Wonder Girls at their live concert in Genting’s Arena Of Stars last Saturday night. They performed about 20 songs during the 90- minute show that saw several costume changes.
No sweat in spotting Wonder Girls’ song titles in that. The South Korean all-girl pop act does not have many songs (they did three versions each of Nobody and 2 Different Tears during the show), yet the girls effortlessly pumped up the heat at their first concert at the Arena Of Stars during the Malaysian leg of their concert tour which kicked off in Seoul early last year.
Emerging individually in sexy all-black getup, the lasses aptly sent temperatures soaring as they opened their The First Wonder concert here with a blistering rendition of So Hot.
The vivacious five-girl group then continued to dazzle the 5,000-strong crowd with their pretty outfits, polished acts and popular hits in Korean, English and Mandarin.
Wonder Girls’ current line-up comprises Min Sun-ye, 21, (Yenny) Park Ye-eun, 21, Ahn So-hee, 18, Kim Yu-bin, 22, and Woo Hye-rim, 18.

The girls are no strangers to Malaysia – they first performed here four months ago at the rained-out MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia at Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach, Bandar Sunway, Selangor. They shared the stage with international acts like American pop star Katy Perry and German rock band Tokio Hotel as well as homegrown punk act Bunkface.
Delivering some 20 songs during their 90-minute show last Saturday, the girls, who were accompanied by half a dozen back-up dancers, strutted their stuff with countless costume changes. They also thrilled fans with their solo numbers: Yu-bin’s Rock Star, So-hee’s Single Ladies, Yenny’s Tainted Love and Sun-ye’s You Raise Me Up.
Ardent MYWonderfuls (Malaysian Wonderfuls) sang along enthusiastically to their favourite catchy tunes. Dressed in the Wonder Girls official colour, pearl burgundy, and waving placards and multi-coloured glowsticks, MYWonderfuls constantly declared their love for their idols between songs.

While singing I Tried, the girls went off the stage to meet their delighted fans. Amid a flurry of excitement and enthusiastic hand-shaking, the girls also plucked a male Wonderful from the crowd and serenaded the beaming fellow on stage with Saying I Love You.
A major So-hee fan, the lucky chap demonstrated his affections using a banner with her name on it and a pink life-size teddy bear, apart from waving the purple glowstick.
Warming up the screaming audience as opening acts for Wonder Girls’ concert that night were local pop artistes Henley Hii (2007 champion of Project Superstar 2), Lau Wan Yin (2008 champion of International Hokkien Singing Competition) and Iz Sulaini (One In A Million 2 finalist).
Wonder Girls became a global phenomenon when the group’s infectious hit song Nobody went viral and even sparked a dance craze around the world last year. The girls continued to bag awards at various Korean music festivals since their debut in early 2007.
The girls have released an album titled The Wonder Years (2007) and four singles – The Wonder Begins (2007), So Hot and The Wonder Years Trilogy (2008) and 2 Different Tears (2010). Hallyu star-maker Park Jin Young produces their songs and they are signed to his talent agency JYP entertainment.
After making their name in the United States while they gave 45 performances as the opening act for teen pop group Jonas Brothers, the girls went on their 27-stop tour of the United States and Canada last year. They are said to be taking their act to China next.
>Held at the Arena Of Stars last Saturday,The First Wonder Wonder Girls Live In Malaysia 2010 was jointly organised by Star Planet and Hwa Yea Multimedia.
