Porsche Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the 911

Originally unveiled at 1963′s IAA International Automotive Show as the 901 before launching the following year, the iconic 911 has become the go-to Porsche for enthusiasts over the past five decades. As 2013 marks the 50-year anniversary of the beloved automobile, Porsche has announced a slew of celebratory plans for the months ahead. Starting in March, the Porsche Museum will display the likes of an early 911 Turbo Coupe, the 1981 911 Cabriolet concept, a 1997 911 GT1, and a Type 754 T7 during the Retro Classics showcase in Stuttgart before unveiling the “50 Years of the Porsche 911″ exhibition on June 4. The German manufacturer also plans to document the world tour of a vintage 1967 Porsche 911, making stops at the likes of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and Goodwood Festival of Speed along the way.
