As soon as the product was announced, the ‘GD&TOP edition‘ of ‘Beats by Dre‘ headphones were a highly sought-after product by hardcore fans.
According to online shopping site, CJMall.com, the headphones come with a price tag of 649,900 ₩ (approximately $566.90 USD). Thus, details on their official endorsement status and legitimacy were important to potential clients.
allkpop was contacted by a representative from Monster Cable (who manufactures ‘Beats‘), and they notified us that GD&TOP’s headphones are “not an authorized product in the Dr. Dre line“. They further clarified, “It is unclear at this time if they are authentic Beats headphones that have been customized with GD&TOP artwork, or if they are counterfeit products making unauthorized use of Beats logos and design.”
The staff on the “Beats By Dre” official Twitter account have further asserted that GD&TOP’s headphones “are NOT an authorized product and does not come with our warranty or support”.
Since then, the official ‘Beats by Dre’ Twitter acount has clarified that the product is not official, or endorsed, nor warrantied by them: “To be clear, the [allkpop] articles are correct that these are not official or endorsed versions from Beats. Not warrantied. [TS]“.
So while they say there was nothing wrong with our article, they just wanted to clarify that it is customized, which means it’s not an official version: “No, someone else did the customization; we weren’t involved and they aren’t covered by our warranty. [TS]”
However, not to worry – the products are not imitations, they’re just customized. ”Not fake, just not an official version; they’ve customized them. The repainting process voids our warranty. [TS]”
The usage of the word “fake” in the original article was regrettable, as many took it to infer that allkpop was saying that the headphones were not real. However, it was posed as a question, and we were simply asking your thoughts.
The last line of the original article was simply saying to only buy from approved vendors or official sites. beatsbydre have mentioned repeatedly that they have had trouble with fakes of their product, hence the notice at the end. Sorry for the misunderstanding on that note. Source: CJMall / Beats By Dre Official Twitter / Monster Representative
